Allow More Than 2 Decimal Places

Incoming invoices sometimes quote hundreds of an item whose individual price is not in a round number of pennies. For example, we had an invoice for 500 labels at £1.269 each. KashFlow silently changed this to £1.27 each whilst keeping the original unrounded amount for the VAT calculation. The result was that we overpaid the supplier by a small amount. Could you please make KashFlow round only the line total, not the price of each item, if I specify additional decimal places in a line item.

    Admin response

I met with our developers yesterday to discuss this issue in more depth. It really is a huge job as it will mean extensive development in all areas of the application. We are very much aware that this is a priority for many businesses especially those dealing with micro transactions that require complete accuracy. As soon as we can provide the resource to build this, we will begin to look at ways of changing the app.

This request was made over 6 years ago. Is this even planned to happen?

Definitely need this. Surprising that it isn't already supported.

I have just asked about this and and was directed to Canvass to raise the issue. I have raised this again, but given the length of time since it was first mooted, I don’t hold out much hope.

I use Kashflow to record invoices for my gas and electricity, where the rate is pence per kWh down to 3 decimal places e.g 32.998p

The limitation on the rate to 2 decimal places for pounds means I have to multiple the rate by 1000 and divide the quantity of units spent by 1000. Fortunately, you do support multiple decimal places for quantity so I can specify 0.995 units instead of the billed 995 unit. But fundamenatlly, you should support rates with more decimal places.

As a software developer, the claim that it is too big a job in this example does not make sense if your underlying type holding the rate is a float or a double, either of which supports multiple deimal places.

Unless you are storing the rate as integer and using pence under the covers, which would be a big design constraint and take a lot of effort to rewrite

Not sure anymore listen or changes anything anymore at KF you just get pointed to the Canvass. Decimal point shoudl have been repaired as urgency, as the work you have to do we entering anything via Api. I asked 9 years ago.

Asked for this over 6 years ago, this will never happen! you spend time having to deal with 1p overpaid or underpaid. i don't think support can fix this.

We are now 1 year on and still no action - Kashflow really needs to listen to customers otherwise they will go elsewhere!

My biggest issue with Kashflow is the total lack of improvements. You say you have implemented 20% of the requested features. Where are they then? I have the "recent changes"  notification switched on on my front screen but nothing is shown. The last email i got from Kashflow informing of an update was months and months ago. Since Kashflow has changed hands it has just become a cash cow for the new owners with no investment. Such a shame because I love what we have but there needs to be more otherwise I will start looking at alternatives.

    afternoon All

I find it ironic that an Accounts package is unable to count beyond 2 decimal places. My company receives said invoices from suppliers all the time and yes, I to would love to be able to invoice out in the same way.

So, come on Kashflow, make it so. Might have helped if it had been done properly in the first place

    waiting in anticipation

I have been reading most of suggestions and responses by Kashflow admins. The most common answer is "we are working on it, it's a huge job" etc. Similar answers have been given to the suggestions made back in 2012 or 2013, today nothing has changed since then.
The lady on the phone who took my credit card details and said that Kashflow is aware of this demand and they are working on it (pretty same answer), and she advised I can cancel my account before trial period ends if you can't add more than 2 decimal places

    Hi Erdal,

We would love to drop functionality like this into the app with ease, unfortunately it really is a big job. Adding an extra decimal place does not only affect the creation of an invoice or a single report, it flows throughout the software and therefore means a change in every single area of the app.

We have completed development and deployment of over 20% of requested features since our user community was created a while back and since its release as Canvass, we have delivered over 20 requested features in a 2 month period. We strive to deliver as much as we can and once its done, we remove it to make room for more requests. Hence the view that on the surface nothing much is really happening.

Hopefully you will find KashFlow to be a great piece of software during your trial despite the lack of the decimal place functionality. As my colleague mentioned to you, we are working on a solution and I apologise that it cannot come sooner.

    Thanks,

    Tom

Allow More Than 2 Decimal Places to the Rate Column (e.g. 10000 units @ £0.00375) Need 5 for Percentages e.g. 0.375%

    Or

You could enable percentages for the rate.
