Why is the new mileage module only available for sole traders and partnerships? Most of my sole traders and partnership clients don’t claim mileage, they claim actual costs and add back private usage. In fact its my limited company clients that claim mileage to avoid benefit in kind costs.
I therefore think you need to rethink that policy.
The new mileage module has been designed specifically for businesses using the "Simplified Expenses" scheme which is not available for use by Limited Companies. We are planning to widen the scope of the Mileage module to make it suitable for Limited Companies in a future release.
My issue with the mileage functionality is that I cannot specify the mileage rate, it's assuming 45p for the first 10k miles. It should allow custom values to cater for company car drivers who will only be reclaiming the fuel element.
Hi Julie, thank you for your reply. We have now tried the copy feature and yes that is useful, thank you. Automated recurring or favourite journeys would be great as a future addition but we can use the copy function which will be beneficial for now!
Hi Chris,
Thank you for your suggestions, I already have suggestion 1 planned for development but it is a busy time with the VAT improvements and MTD VAT so it's just a matter of having time available to do the work. Please bear with us.
With regard to suggestion 2 - have you considered using the Copy function? There is an icon next to the dustbin icon for each mileage trip - click this and the trip will open but as a copy of the original - simply change the date and save the new transaction. Not quite what you describe but may save some time for your users until we can make further improvements.
It is good to see this implemented. We have two suggestions -
1. The selection of the account for the credit to be posted needs to include the ability to select a bank account. This is because if Kashflow's own advice is followed, the director loan account will be setup as a bank account rather than a nominal code.
2. Our users have fed back that it would be great to have an option for recurring journeys, or a list of favourite journeys saved to click on. Eg Limited company contractor drives from home to their contract 5 days a week for 6 months. Rather than enter the same exact journey every day, they would like to be able to put the journey in and click recurring mon-fri from say 1 April to 25 June and the system put in each daily entry for them.
It will be very useful to extend to multiple users.

In tomorrow's release, we are removing the restriction on limited companies so that they have access to the mileage module. Please note: at the moment, the module will still only be able to track mileage claims for one individual. We are planning to extend this functionality in a future release but I can't give a timescale at the moment.
I agree with the comments below. ASAP!
Julie
