Set-up Go Cardless Direct Debit BEFORE customer is added to Kashflow

Currently we have to add the customer in Kashflow before we can send them a request to set-up a Direct Debit via Go Cardless.

It would be much much better if we could just send them the link to set-up a Direct Debit within the Kashflow app and then later apply it from a drop down list to the customer at a later date.

This is very easy to do, and something we did ourselves at Charity Checkout some time ago. It took a couple hours of development time, we'd be happy to advise.

This is useful because we don't know if the customer is actually going to join our service until they fill out the Direct Debit, so adding every prospect and having to send them a quote via Kashflow is too cumbersome. We embed the Direct Debit set-up links in our emails signatures, but these are not connected with Kashflow sadly.

    Admin Response

Hi Chester, Please get in touch with our colleagues at GoCardless who would be happy to help you set this up. At the moment, the GoCardless functionality is only triggered once you set up your first payment as a default and there arent currently any plans to change this

    Hi Chester,

Unfortunately there is not too much we can do to assist in this instance. We cannot pulll a standalone direct debit mandate from Go Cardless due to the architecture of KashFlow, it would have to be attached to a customer record.

If this request does get a number of votes we can look at generating some sort of link from the system, but unfortunately we have not had this issue brought to our attention previously so there is no solution in place at the moment.

    Thanks,

    Tom

Thanks for the acknowledgment. I spoke to Go Cardless and Kashflow support before posting this. Go Cardless are willing to assist, but Kashflow are not.

The way the integration is currently set-up is poor, it requires you to create a customer in Kashflow before inviting them to set-up a Direct Debit and become a customer. This means you cannot use the feature for clients who want to sign up online or sign up unexpectedly.

Could Kashflow itself operate on the basis that its customers could only join the service if Kashflow first set them up on their accounting system and emailed them a quote/ invoice?

PS - This is an example of our dashboard pre-auth link for the Go Cardless dashboard - www.charitycheckout.co.uk/directdebit (it redirects to GC)

All Kashflow need to do is give each user a similar link and then add a field for applying the Go Cardless Merchant ID to a Kashflow customer.
