Add automated backups back to Kashflow

Around May 2018, Kashflow silently removed the ability to have automated backups. This feature was initially added back in 2008.

Rather than backups happening with no action on the part of users via email, users are now required to take manual steps to perform backups. The gnerally accepted wisdom is that for backups to be useful they must be automated*, so a manual system like this means in practice to say that backups will no longer occur reliably - if at all.

I propose that automated backups be added back to the product. This could be via email, this could be by writing to DropBox (where receipts are already stored) - the key point is that once it is setup the backups should happen with no human interaction.

* And regularly tested for restores.

The ability to set and create automated back, preferably with some form of success notification is a must for disaster recovery planning, along with the ability to use the backup to restore the system in it's entirety.

The lack of GDPR compliance for email as a transport mechanism is not an excuse to not have a working offsite/platform backup solution.

There are many SaaS file storage platforms that are GDPR compliant (when configured correctly), which could be used/integrated into Kashflow to offer a secured backup transfer solution.

I'm not sure why you've marked this as "Will not implement", the request stands. Even if you believe that emails are insecure (they're encrypted as far as I can see), there are other ways to approach this.

Shev is correct, and emails are not considered a secure enough under GDPR which is why we have had to change the backup procedure to a more secure download.

(09:21:44 AM) Euan Williamson: i see that you have changed the method of sending backups.
Until recently the backup was actually attached to the email.
Now it seems I have to go to the site and login, go to settings and then download it.
I'd like it put back to having it attached.
That way it is automatically archived safely in my cloud email account.

    (09:26:28 AM) Shev: Hello Euan
(09:26:34 AM) Euan Williamson: Hi Shev
(09:26:45 AM) Shev: Unfortunately this cannot be done as it has been changed following the introduction of GDPR
(09:27:40 AM) Euan Williamson: I dont understand why GDPR would need this.
(09:27:54 AM) Euan Williamson: You have the data, which I can request anytime.
(09:28:06 AM) Shev: This is to do with the security of the data.
(09:28:07 AM) Euan Williamson: It's my data sent to me with my permission.

(09:28:42 AM) Euan Williamson: Send it as a password zip using my login credentials

(09:29:20 AM) Shev: I can pass this suggestion to my manager however this will hold more weight if you add this to http://www.kashflowcanvass.com/ which is monitored by our product team
